Staff Spotlight: Ms. Moxley

When someone says the word “school” everyone just thinks about students and teachers. But what about everyone else?

At Cross Creek there is a large amount of other staff members besides teachers and students.

One person that may be overlooked is Mrs. Peggy Moxley. Moxley, Cross Creek’s secretary, answers phone, gives tardy passes, and sometimes makes the famous afternoon annoucement.

On April 22, 1949 Margaret and Clifford Goings Sr. gave birth to Peggy Moxley. Moxley grew up in Augusta, Georgia and attended Lawton B. Evans elementary, Tubman Junior High, and graduated from Richmond Academy.

Years later, Moxley married Thomas Michael Moxley Sr. on November 7th, 1969.

The Moxleys had one son, Thomas Michael Moxley Jr. Her son, Thomas Jr., just recently got married last summer.

Moxley began her journey with the school system by working as a substitute teacher for five years. She later worked at Langford middle school for 13 years as a secretary and bookkeeper. Moxley has been working here at Cross Creek since the school opened in the fall of 1999. When asked if being a secretary was hard, she said “sometimes I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”

After years of working in the School System, Moxley will be retiring at the end of this year
