Keeping the halls safe

Meet Cross Creek’s new hall monitor

Anijah Gordon, Staff Writer

Who’s that new face we have been seeing in the hallway?

Her name is Shay Rawls and she is our new hall monitor. Shay graduated from Cross Creek in 2006. She played varsity basketball for four years.

“I enjoy playing basketball, being a mother and making a difference” Shay said.

Even as she is no longer in high school she still plays Basketball for Georgia soul as a center. Shay has been playing for them since she was five years old.

Shay is the mother of 5 year old Dai-yon. Outside of school and work Shay loves to travel. She has been to Mexico, Florida, Baltimore you name it.

“There is more to this world than Augusta” said Shay, “You have to travel and meet new people.”

Before becoming a hall monitor Shay was a substitute teacher. After graduating from Cross Creek she was enrolled in Georgia State where she graduated with her bachelor’s in Psychology. Besides working at Cross Creek Shay has another job at Footlocker in the Augusta Mall.

Having a hall monitor may not be what some envision for a high school. This is more that just a job to Ms. Rawls it is also about giving back to her Alma-mater. It is always good to have past students around especially one as cool as Shay but unfortunately she will only be here for a year.
