13 reasons why

Netflix recently came out with a new series show called “13 Reasons Why”. The show is about a young girl by the name of Hannah who had committed suicide. Before she took her life she recorded 13 tapes to 13 people who drove her to suicide and what they had done to contribute to her decision.

Even though September is known as National Suicide Prevention month the show raises awareness of suicide and potential reasons why people often chose to take that path.

Hannah faced many problems which included being raped, verbally bullied, betrayal, lost friendships and abandonment by her parents and friends. She struggled to fit in at school and in her mind, society as well. Every time she decided to give life another chance she was given another reason to end her life.

The show gave a valuable lesson of never turning our backs on others because we never know what they are going through. A person may have the biggest smile but deep down the biggest pain. No one was aware of what Hannah was going through and every attempt she made to talk to someone they were never available mentally.

Suicide should not be taken lightly. Thousands of people die from suicide every year. You may never know who the next Hannah is that is why it is important to always be a shoulder to cry on when someone is in need.
