Cross Creek Senior Jaheim Samuels puts finishing touches on a mural depicting the principles of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
PBIS, in part, seeks to reward and encourage good behavior through rewards such as leisure time or student parties.
You can see Samuels’ mural between the 100 and 200 halls heading to the Cafeteria. He has also painted another mural near the Media Center.
Samuels said he became passionate about art around middle school.
“Taking it serious, I’ve been doing it since seventh grade,” Samuels said.
Samuels has two favorite artists, legendary painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Cross Creek’s own Noah Quarles, a senior who recently designed the Class of 2020 Senior shirt.
Quarles has a unique flair to his work that Samuels admires.
“I don’t see anything like it,” Samuels said. “It’s very creative.”
