Students and staff at Cross Creek said farewell to English teacher Dr. Terry last week.
Terry taught sophomore literature, and on Friday, left for a new teaching position at Aiken High School, home of the Hornets.
She will be teaching American Literature for juniors.
Terry said she is sad to leave, but saw an opportunity in the new position.
“I am deeply saddened to be leaving because I have become attached to my students and colleagues,” Terry said. “ You know, we’ve formulated good relationships.”
Terry said she is excited about meeting new people and having a new curriculum to teach. Terry had taught at Cross Creek for seven years and is fond of the students she has had in her classes over the years.
Ayanna Davis, a sophomore, said she was said to see Terry go.
“I didn’t want her to leave,” Davis said. “That was my favorite class. She made it fun for me and she was nice.”
Members of the faculty were also upset.
“Obviously, we’ll miss Dr. Terry and her smile every morning,” said Spanish teacher Mr. Hawkins.
English teacher Mr. Jackson shared that sentiment.
“Dr. Terry was an inspiration to all of us,” Jackson said, “and she will truly be missed in the English Department.”
Terry says she won’t be a total stranger to the Cross Creek campus. She will be back for games and other activities.
